Oh Baby! Fitness has released a new mom & baby exercise mobile app on iTunes: the Mom & Baby Weekly Workout. The app offers a specific exercise for every week after the birth of baby…all the way to 6 months postpartum! Download it today and start your own personalized and safe exercise routine with your baby!
Co-owner and Senior Instructor Kathleen Donahoe was recently interviewed by partner Piedmont Hospital about the best tips for exercise and weight loss for new moms. Our Mom & Baby Pilates class was profiled too. Check out the story here:
We call the first three months of a baby’s life the fourth trimester because they often act like they want to be back in the womb, but it’s also the fourth trimester for the mom. Her body is experiencing many of the same physiological realities of pregnancy (the hormone relaxin, stretched out abdominals, back pain) AND also trying to recover from childbirth. For moms the fourth trimester is a massive physical challenge, on top of also being a sleep deprived, hormone-fueled emotional roller coaster.
Studies show that up to 60% of women experience urinary incontinence throughout their lifetime. The number one cause of leakage is childbirth, and more than 4.3 million women give birth in the United States each year. I don’t need to do the exact numbers to show that that is a whole lot of women! This is a problem…a big problem.
We get asked all the time how quickly women can return to exercise postpartum. While you don’t want to vigorously exercise until cleared by your doctor (usually at your 6 week postpartum visit), there are some simple exercises you can do before then to help get your body recovered and rehabbed from pregnancy and delivery. The video below shows three exercises you can do in those first six weeks—starting in the hospital! Check them out to find out how to get your body ready to get back to exercise as soon as your doctor clears you.
Oh Baby! Fitness spent 2 days filming almost 80 videos (!) for two mobile apps we’re releasing at the end of the year. One on pregnancy and the other for mom & baby exercise. Thanks to Piedmont Atlanta Fitness Center
I’m about to finish off my second trimester and wanted to share some of the things that have surprised me about working out in this trimester, as well as what has worked. Coming into this trimester I wasn’t sure what
